'Pride of the South' Gallopers
A more recent addition to our fair, our 'Number 2' Gallopers/Carousel is now available for any occasion, be it a private party or corporate event, to public events including county shows and steam rallies, or even weddings and film work (for which the ride is very well known, see list of films below). Whatever the event or occasion our No2 Gallopers/Carousel is sure to be a spectacular addition to your event.
Built by Frederick Savage of Kings Lynn in 1893 our No.2 Gallopers/Carousel is one of the oldest still operating in the U.K. Attending Fairs & other events around London & southern England, the ride soon became known as "The Pride of the South" due to the particularly elaborate carvings & distinctive shape of the ride. The ride is also very well known for its appearances in feature films, the most notable being 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang', 'Half a Sixpence' & 'Who framed Roger Rabbit'. Our Number Two Gallopers/Carousel has always been presented to the highest of standards when operating, a fact that didn't go unnoticed when it was presented in Buckingham Palace to Queen Elizabeth II & Prince Phillip as part of the royal garden party, to date this is the only Gallopers/Carousel to have had the honour of operating in the grounds of Buckingham Palace.
The ride features polished twisted brass, hand painted decoration and some elaborate brilliant cut glass mirrors amongst its decorative features, and riders can experience all of this on a choice of 36 horses. Music is provided by an organ in the middle of the ride.
This ride is 40 feet in diameter the requires a site as level as possible and suitable access for large lorries must also be available. Each year, the Gallopers are inspected by independent engineers and carries its own public liability as standard.
